iPhone 5 4G Only Available Via Vodacom

If you live in South Africa and you want access to 4G carrier capabilities for your iPhone 5, you’re out of luck if you aren’t on the Vodacom train.New Zealand focused site, Tech Central, unleashed some news about the availability of 4G LTE connection rates in South Africa and it comes with a bit of silver lining, acknowledging that the 4G capabilities are now present in the region but only from one carrier, creating a bit of monopoly on the carrier service.

The newest Apple phone, which was launched in South Africa in December, didn’t support 4G networks at first because the company wanted to complete its own testing of them to satisfy itself they met its stringent quality requirements.Well, the embargo is up and 4G networks is now the “In” thing in South Africa, so long as you drop your current carrier and switch over to Vodacom.

Apple Concept Video Shows a 4.8 inch iPhone Mockup

With rumors of a 4.8-inch iPhone on the horizon, a Russian site decided to create a mockup video of what they think it would look like. They created the concept from the details of the ‘iPhone Math’ rumors (iPhone Math? Really?) as well as staying with the present Apple design parameters of current models. In other words it looks like an iPhone 5, except with its been lengthened and widened to accommodate the bigger screen. The device has a 4.8 inch display, a 12 megapixel camera and comes in an assortment of colors.

Though rumors also place the new bigger iPhone as the next product in Apple’s lineup, both mainstream analysts and news reports on the supply side have pretty much debunked a 2013 release.

Budget iPhone to go back to plastic Apple

There's a growing voice saying Apple is working on an entry-level iPhone and the latest report suggests it will ditch the fancy glass finish for a more economical plastic chassis.
Apple is no stranger to the use of plastic on its phones as it used the material on its handsets up to the iPhone 3GS, with the well known glass-metal combo only coming into effect with the iPhone 4.
Now Digitimes has spoken to one of its infamous "upstream supply chain sources" which has "confirmed" that the budget iPhone will sport the plastic chassis of old in an attempt to keep costs down.

No brainer
This hardly comes as much of a surprise, as using cheaper materials for the handset's body is one of the key ways for Apple to keep the price of the final unit low.
A plastic chassis could be music to the ears of clumsy iPhone owners who have seen their shiny smartphones shatter as they hit the deck – just ask our very own Kate Solomon and Gareth Beavis, who both managed to smash iPhone 4s back in the day.
We're not counting our chickens just yet though as Digitimes doesn't have a particularly glistening track reckord with these sort of leaks and there's been no official word from the Cupertino-based firm that it's even considering a cut-price iPhone.
According to the same source the first entry-level iPhone will hit stores in the second half of 2013 – we'll just have to wait and see.

Waze, the mapping app to be bought by Apple

Launched in 2009 in Israel, Waze happens to be one of the fastest growing and most used Apps on Android as well as Apple platforms. The concept of Wave apps is simple – old fashioned crowdsourcing. And now, Apple is planning to acquire the navigation app.

"As per latest updates, Waze wants $ 750 million whereas Apple wants to settle for $ 400 M + $ 100 M incentives."

Waze navigation app – How it works, and why it is so awesome!
Founder Uri Levine had launched the app with the idea to empower drivers to share information. When a person is stuck in traffic, they can safely tap the information in the app so other drivers can avoid the route at that time. This way, by the 20% of the country’s population started using the app, it saved on an average five minutes off every day for each driver.
It’s all real time – Waze does not use fancy cars with cameras (like Google Maps) or map database of other companies. Instead, it uses good crowd sourcing. For example, if a road is not on the map, and you, who use Waze app, is driving down the road for the first time, the road will appear on the map. You can also edit the map with map editing tools and give additional information. The real time experience has been so devised, that Waze can automatically detect whether a particular road is say one way by detecting if 100 or so cars are going in one direction only. Waze has tapped the potential of crowdsourcing to enhance user experience and collect real time data.
Waze is the world’s fastest-growing community-based traffic and navigation app. Join other drivers in your area who share real-time traffic and road info, saving everyone time and gas money on their daily commute.
Apple’s decision to acquire Waze is practical and convincing. Especially after it dumped Google Maps and the memorable Apple Maps fiasco, let’s see a nice decent mapping app in place.

Apple Could Sell 50 Million iPhones in First Quarter

Apple is always under the business microscope, with analysts always chiming in on Apple’s potential forecasts. A new report suggests that Apple could have moved more than 50 million iPhones during the first fiscal quarter.
According to BGR, Rob Cihra of Evercore Partners has a good and highly positive outlook for Apple’s business. Ahead of reports scheduled to go public on January 23rd, Cihra believes that Apple will post numbers around the 50 million mark for iPhone handsets shipped during the first quarter.
There’s an estimated 35% year-over-year growth expected, and an 86% increase compared to the previous quarter. Also, thanks to the release of the iPad Mini, the tablet SKUs are expected to come in at around 24 million moved throughout the quarter.
For now, these are just estimates but it’s entirely possible, thanks to the launch of the iPhone 5 in more than 100 countries that 50 million SKUs shipped during the first quarter is a complete possibility.

Apple Inc working on iPhone 6, iOS 7

The next big thing from the backyards of Apple, the biggest technology company (well, almost!) iPhone 6 is apparently being worked upon. This news is not from a tech crazy maniac who is running the rumor mill. Rather, app usage logs suggest so.
Wait, what just happened? You say App usage logs show iPhone 6 and iOS 7 being unwrapped. How?
When an app developer launches an app, the developer can see who the Application’s data usage. And recently, some developers whose apps are popular have seen that Apple’s iOS 6.1 running on iOS 7 reference in the app usage logs. Interestingly, the IP addresses of the new devices are originating from Cupertino, California; exactly where Apple headquarters are located. Intriguing!
iPhone 6 , iOS 7 : What to expect
To start with, let’s see the cold war between Google and Apple ending. Apple users don’t want to be penalized with another Apple Maps disaster. And then, moving on, a better app management is definitely on the top of our wish lists. When asked, a few Apple iPhone 5 users say they would love to get customized default apps for basics like emails and calendars and changes like hiding apps you never use or creating better, bolder icons.
When can we lay our hands on iPhone 6
To be frank, can’t say. A few months back, a tech blog said we would get the next iPhone by late December 2012. So far, we only have rumors and leaks to follow. Unless Apple makes an official statement, you should take all the news with a pinch of salt. (No, don’t eat apple and salt. No point. Just kidding.)
Lately we have got an overdose of rumors about Apple devices. But as this one comes from reliable sources and is backed by data (by which I refer to the app data usage logs), we thought it could be shared with you.
Happy New Year to all! Guess the news of a better iPhone 6 with fantastic and powerful iOS 7 be good enough for a new year wish, right.
